Thousands
of demonstrators have shut down part of K Street in Washington DC, known as the
home of lobbying in the nation's capital.
Under heavy
rain, police blocked off part of the downtown street during the protest which
has been peaceful so far.
Occupy Wall
Street has been protesting against corporate greed and the role of money in
politics for several months.
In San
Francisco, police arrested 70 people during an overnight raid on that city's
Occupy encampment.
Demonstrators
there were given five minutes to gather their belongings before police took
down about 100 tents.
On Tuesday,
Occupy DC protesters were joined by activists from around the country as they
sat outside the offices of House and Senate members.
Demonstrations
took place outside the offices of House Speaker John Boehner and Senate
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, both Republicans.
